Newmarket MFC Safeguarding Policy Statement
- Newmarket Model Flying Club (NMFC) acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children (those under 18) and vulnerable adults (those with physical, mental or other disabilities) participating in the club’s activities.
- The club has adopted the BMFA policy for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. Within the meaning of the BMFA policy, the Club Secretary acts as the Welfare Officer.
- NMFC endeavours to be inclusive and recognises that children and vulnerable adults have a right to:
a. participate in model flying in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment b. be treated with dignity and protected from abuse, neglect or harm.
- Club members working closely with children and vulnerable adults – typically instructors or examiners – are encouraged to obtain clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
However, the nature of model flying, and the location of the NMFC Flying site at West Row mean that it is not possible to guarantee that qualified personnel will always be on site. As a consequence, the Club Rules require that children and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult at all times.
- All club members are required to be vigilant and to report any concerns relating to the treatment of children and vulnerable adults to the Welfare Officer. Any suspicions or allegations will be treated seriously, investigated and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
