Training

Newmarket Model Flying Club aims to provide a friendly, safe environment for its members to enjoy their model flying. This includes the provision of training for those new to the hobby.

As set out in the Club Rules, only those members with a BMFA 'A' Certificate (or higher) are allowed to fly solo. Beginners and Novices are required to fly under the direct supervision on one of the club’s instructors. Once an instructor is happy that a Beginner has mastered the basics, that member becomes an Improver and may fly under the supervision of any experienced club member. In addition to practicing their flying, Improvers should seek the assistance of a club examiner with a view to preparing for, and taking, an 'A' Certificate test.

In the interests of continuity and consistency, the club will try to allocate each Beginner a specific instructor although this may not always be possible. Once contact has been made trainees and instructors are free to make their own training arrangements but the club also offers Training sessions which provide an opportunity for trainees and instructors to get together. Weather permitting, our aim is to run one weekday evening session per week and two Sunday sessions per month during the summer months (May to September).  Sessions during the winter may be scheduled if there is sufficient demand.

Training sessions are posted on the club Flying Calendar; members wishing to attend are required to sign in to the sessions they wish to attend. This document explains how the process works.
