Newmarket Model Flying Club
Newmarket Model Flying Club (NMFC) is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). The club has operated in various locations in and around Newmarket for many years but, since 2019, its activities have been based at a flying site at West Row, near Mildenhall.
The site is leased from a local landowner who, in addition to being supportive of the club’s activities, maintains the grass landing strip all year round. The club has planning permission to operate at the site and whilst there are some restrictions on the use of i.c. models the site is available 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Further information can be found here.
Historically, the club members have also used an area of Newmarket Heath adjacent to the Rowley Mile Racecourse to fly gliders and electric models. It is a public space and the members using it do so as individuals rather than with any implied authority or endorsement by the club.
The club also holds indoor flying meetings in Burwell during the winter months.
The club is always looking for new members, of all ages and abilities. So, if you've been flying for years, or just want to give it a try, get in touch and we can help get you flying. We have club training aircraft, so you don't even have to own a model to give it a go. Our training aircraft use a buddy box system, so the trainer can take control at any point during the flight.
The club is mentioned in this article, published in issue 146 of BMFA news (Article reproduced with the kind permission of BMFA News).
The Newmarket Journal also ran a story about the club in January 2021 A PDF of the article can be downloaded from here. (Article reproduced with the kind permission of The Newmarket Journal).
